Background of the Study The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is a Nigerian government agency established to improve the quality of education in higher institutions by providing financial support for academic research, infrastructure development, and staff training. In federal universities, TETFund has become an essential source of funding, particularly in areas related to research, which is critical for advancing knowledge, improving educational standards, and fostering innovation. Bayero University in Kano, one of Nigeria’s foremost federal universities, has benefited significantly from TETFund’s support in promoting academic research.
Despite the significant role that TETFund plays in supporting research, the effectiveness and impact of its funding on academic outcomes require further investigation. The fund’s influence on research capacity building, publication of academic work, and the development of research infrastructure is essential for understanding its broader impact on the quality of education. This study aims to evaluate the role of TETFund in promoting academic research at Bayero University, Kano, examining the fund’s contributions to research productivity, infrastructure development, and the capacity of academic staff.
